OE size

Valve may be used with original OE casting.
Valve may also be used with Sonnax 37947-09K sleeve kit.
Valve has been hard-coat anodized to prevent scratching on the critical spools.

Symptoms:

Code 628, 1741
TCC apply concerns

Cause:

Debris and constant oscillation of the converter clutch regulator valve can create scratches on the critical valve spools.

Correction:

Sonnax offers a direct replacement TCC regulator valve, which may be used either in the original casting bore or in conjunction with the Sonnax 37947-09K sleeve when the bore cannot be salvaged with an OE-diameter valve.

Sleeve
Spring
Valve
End Plug
O-Rings (2) 1 Extra

Wear-resistant sleeve provides additional support to the control valve
Valve is hardcoat anodized to reduce wear and has more sealing contact with the bore than OE to minimize leakage.
O-ringed end plug provides positive seal to the bore once valve/sleeve assembly is installed.
Spring maintains OE operating pressures.

Symptoms:

Flare shifts
Low line pressure
Pressure control out-of-range codes

Cause:

Bore wear at the VFS1 (PCA) and VFS2 (PCB) locations allows modulated line pressure to exhaust instead of feeding the overdrive, intermediate or low/reverse servos or the coast clutch. Fluid pressure loss at these apply components results in low line pressure, shift complaints and burnt clutches and bands.

Correction:

This Sonnax kit allows wear to be eliminated, future wear to be prevented and correct hydraulic pressures to be restored to critical apply components. The kit works in either modulator control bore location.

Required tool

F-56947J-TL19

NOTE: Kit works in either the VFS1 or VFS2 modulator control bore location.

Symptoms:

Burnt Forward clutch
Burnt intermediate band
Delayed Forward
Delayed Reverse
High line pressure
Low line pressure
Pressure control out-of-range codes

Cause:

Bore wear results in reduced feed pressure to overdrive, intermediate or low/reverse servos or the coast clutch.

Correction:

Refurbish the valve bore and install the Sonnax oversized valve kit to restore proper hydraulic function and prevent future leakage. This Sonnax kit works in either modulator valve location.

Manual valve index

Vehicles with an A4LD transmission commonly have such problems as burned forward clutches, binding condition when the selector lever is pulled from park, or delayed reverse. The forward clutch failure is often caused by a manual valve indexed out of position, thus allowing line pressure to bleed into the forward clutch circuit in park position. The instability of the linkage also creates a manual valve misalignment and delayed reverse.

Attaching the manual valve index 56947-01 to the end of the manual valve will overcome the loose linkage tolerance and prevent the manual valve from opening up the forward clutch circuit in park.

• The tight cross-hole tolerance on the manual valve index adds stability to the loose linkage.

• Manual valve index has been lengthened to allow it to act as a stop to prevent the forward clutch circuit from being opened in park.

Symptoms:

• Burnt Forward clutch

• Delayed Reverse

• Manual lever binds in Park position

Cause:

A manual valve indexed out of position and/or linkage instability allows line pressure to feed the forward clutch circuit in park.

Correction:

This manual valve index will overcome the loose linkage tolerance and correctly position the manual valve.

Overdrive Repair Sleeve
Intermediate Repair Sleeve

Highly wear-resistant aluminum sleeve extends case life
Sleeves repair 5R55N, 5R55W and 5R55S overdrive and intermediate servo locations
One tool kit fits 5R55N, 5R55W and 5R55S overdrive and intermediate servo locations
Tool kit pilot and reamer align from the pin bore centerline, not the servo piston bore
Allows expensive case salvage

Symptoms:

1-2, 2-3, 4-5 Flares
Band lining failure
Code 732, 733,735
Gear loss
Loss of OD & intermediate servo control

Cause:

Severe wear of the case at the servo apply pin bore due to continuous pin oscillation can result in burned clutches, shift complaints, and destroyed cases.

Correction:

The Sonnax sleeve is made from highly wear-resistant aluminum, and allows the case to be refurbished to provide proper clearance with the servo apply pins.

Reverse Servo Sleeve Kit

• Sleeve

• Back-up Ring

• O-Ring

The reverse servo bore on the A4LD case can become scored due to repeated oscillation of the reverse servo piston within the bore during normal operation. Once this bore is damaged, the case must be scrapped. Install the Sonnax A4LD Reverse Servo Sleeve Kit 56532-01K to refurbish the case bore.

• Kit contains a steel sleeve, O-ring and a back-up ring.

• Instructions are included for machining the servo piston assembly by simply turning the smaller piston journal 1/16" smaller.

Symptoms:

• Delayed Forward clutch

• Forward clutch failure

• Rear servo bore wear

• Reverse band failure

Cause:

Heavy scoring at the case bore for the inner piston seal allows drive oil loss, which can cause forward clutch and/or reverse band failure.

Correction:

The reverse servo sleeve kit restores the function of the reverse piston and salvages the case.

Pressure modulator valve ZF5HP19 OS

Pressure Modulator Valve
Piston Valve
End Plug

In ZF5HP19 units, the pressure modulator valve train controls accumulator back-pressure relative to load and is subject to significant wear due to constant motion under normal operating conditions. Excessive bore and valve spool wear will likely cause poor or no line pressure rise. Poor line pressure rise is indicated by flare upshifts or slip/chatter in reverse. Other symptoms such as softening and lengthening shifts with rising temperature and clutch distress may be present. Installing Sonnax oversized pressure modulator valve kit 85755-03K can restore proper functionality to the entire bore and valve train.

Valve is hardcoat anodized
Valve is manufactured to extremely tight tolerances

NOTE: OE valve spool diameters must match dimensions noted in the illustration. This kit cannot be used to repair valve bodies with valves of other sizes.

Repair Plate
Part No. FS-WS-1

Sonnax retainer repair ring FS-WS-1 can simplify the rebuild procedure for ZF Sachs captive clutch units in ZF5HP19 and ZF5HP24 converters. FS-WS-1 allows the rebuilder to keep the damaging heat of the re-weld process away from the seal area. It also simplifies the process of adjusting the clutch release clearance which is very critical on these units.

The retainer replair ring may also be used to salvage an early crimped style captive clutch with the crimped area damaged if you modify it by removing about .040" from the I.D. to match the O.D. of the cover tower, and by machining excess material off the staking tabs that extend above the thickness of the original retainer.
